Description | Replace life with shadows to create a shield from the fallen. For each piece of magic tank equipment worn: - Gain 10% of its armour value as flat damage reduction. - Gain 25% of your defence level as flat damage reduction. - 12m duration. - Only core damage types can be reduced by this effect. - Damage cannot be reduced by more than 60% due to this effect. - Reduced effectiveness in PvP. Animate Dead is an Ancient Magicks spell and an Aspect of Evasion requiring level 84 Magic and completion of City of Senntisten to cast. For each piece of magic tank armour worn, the player casting the spell:
- Gains 10% of its armour value as flat damage reduction
- Gains 25% of your Defence level as flat damage reduction
The spell lasts for 12 minutes, and damage cannot be reduced more than 60% by this effect (maximum of 40% reduction in PvP). Casting the spell does not interrupt channelled abilities and ignores global cooldown.
Animate Dead will only work on core damage types, meaning Magic, Ranged, Melee, and Necromancy. Other damage types such as typeless, poison, reflect, etc. are unaffected.
It cannot be used at the same time as Darkness.
The damage reduction happens at the end of the damage calculation. Various abilities, items, and auras function before Animate Dead reduces that damage; prayer points received via powder of penance and the penance aura, Resonance, Divert, Reflect, Debilitate, aegis aura, hellhound familiar, Conjure Phantom Guardian, and many more.
Devotion normally reduces damaging hits to 1 when the correct protection prayer is used, but when combined with Animate Dead, the hits are reduced to 0 damage. The 0 damage will still trigger the Disruption Shield spell from the Lunar spells book if activated.
When 30 seconds are remaining on the spell, the player will be informed with the message Your control of the dead is wavering. as a warning to renew the spell if it is still being used. When it expires, the player will be informed with the message Your control of the dead fades, the spirits return to rest.
As the spell can only be used with magic tank armour, this makes it highly effective with ganodermic, seasinger, primeval and cryptbloom armour due to their high levels and being tank armour. The spell does stack with cryptbloom's set effects, adding an additional layer of protection.
